"I am running for City Council because I believe deeply in what Berkeley stands for—and I also believe we can do better at living up to those values."

Berkeley has always been a city that leads. A city that fights for justice, for equity, for the environment, for peace. But today, too many people in District 1 are asking a simple question: who is this city working for?

Is it working for the families who are struggling to stay in their homes?

For seniors worried about being priced out of the neighborhoods they helped build?

For small businesses trying to survive on our commercial corridors?

For young people who love Berkeley—but don’t believe they’ll ever be able to afford to live here?

I’m running because the answer should be: YES. For all of us.

Affordablility

We deserve an affordable, thriving Berkeley.

Skyrocketing housing costs are pushing people out of our city. Moni is fighting to prevent policies that allow corporations to buy up blocks of our city and result in pushing out families and Berkeley’s beloved small businesses. Instead, Moni will focus on the expansion of affordable housing, protecting artists and small businesses in our District, and creating real opportunities for working families and people across the income spectrum.

We deserve an affordable, thriving Berkeley.

Accountability

We deserve a city government that is accountable to its constituents.

Residents often feel shut out of the city's decision-making process. Moni is committed to transparent, community-driven governance. As an experienced policymaker, Moni has shown she knows how to listen to the needs of constituents, rely on data and experts to inform her decisions, and work to strengthen accountability.

Safe spaces

We deserve streets and public spaces where we can all walk and play safely

Traffic injuries and fatalities in Berkeley are on the rise. This is both unacceptable and preventable. Moni will prioritize fixing our streets and sidewalks, push for fair and ethical enforcement of traffic rules, and expand public spaces in West Berkeley.

We deserve streets and public spaces where we can all walk and play safely
